Oracle doubles capacity of ODA X5-2 hard disks

16 x 8TB hard disksOracle has recently updated the specification of the ODA X5-2 to use 8 TB hard disks, rather than 4 TB ones, effectively doubling the machine’s storage capacity. The price has remained the same ($68k list).

For the base ODA the new 128 TB raw capacity translates to a DATA diskgroup, with normal redundancy, of size 24/48 TB (local/external backup). The new 8 TB disk has other characteristics comparable to the 4 TB model so, should you wish to run application database workloads alongside O-box SOA, the usual care is required when specifying the platform.
